Whoa. Life got the best of us and we've been slacking on posting. Sorry about that everyone!
Being the food lover that I am, I will have to say breakfast always wins. Give me eggs, bacon and pancakes any day.
During a recent trip to Chicago, my stepbrother took us to this lovely little place called The Heartland Cafe. It's pretty much the definition of a vegan restaurant. Now, I'm not vegan. I like meat and cheese. And eggs...also dairy. I just love food. Anyway, I'm not opposed to trying new things, but I'm also leery of tofu and soy products. So, I decided to play it safe and order whole wheat pancakes with a side of turkey bacon. I mean you can't go wrong with pancakes. I fell in love. I wanted to recreate their deliciousness at home. A light bulb went off, an a-ha moment. Bob's Red Mill. Bob is a good man. He makes healthy food (gluten free, organic, e.g.) that tastes good, and all at your local grocery store.
I like my pancakes with just butter and syrup. My better half, she had fun experimenting. Her first concoction: Nutella and bananas. I must say it was awesome. I could write a whole post on Nutella though. Sooooo good.
Her second combination: blackberries and greek yogurt. I loathe the taste of greek yogurt. I've tried and I just can't do it. However, to each their own. Whatever tickles your tastebuds.
The final one: Honey and butter. I don't know about most people, but I have to be in a mood for honey. However, I do enjoy this honey. One because it's all natural. Two because it's free. My parents have bee hives at their house. Yay for homesteading!
Whatever your choice may be, just remember to always play with your food. Despite what your mother may have told you.
Oh, and Bob's Red Mill is carried at good ol' Wal Mart, Big Lots (yes it's true!), GNC, Amazon, and others. Check this stuff out!
